A 39-year-old Lincoln man was arrested at the federal building in downtown Lincoln on Thursday after being caught with meth while walking in, police said.

Michael Eveland had entered the Robert V. Denney Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse on Centennial Mall North at about 12:30 p.m. when a security guard noticed a bulge in his sock while Eveland was going through a metal detector, according to LPD Officer Angela Sands.

Eveland revealed he had been hiding a glass pipe with a suspicious substance later determined to be meth, then he pretended to be ill and asked for a trash can, Sands said.

After being given the trash can, Eveland attempted to throw away a small baggie containing 0.5 grams of meth, she said.

Eveland was arrested and booked in the Lancaster County jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, police said.
