A Lincoln man is facing two felony theft by deception charges for allegedly taking thousands of dollars from homeowners for work on their homes but not doing the work.

Michael J. Walton, 35, of 536 W. Cuming St., was booked into jail early Monday and got out around 7 p.m. after posting bond.

He could get up to 20 years in prison on each of the counts, if he's convicted.

In court records, police said a Lincoln woman and a Malcolm man together were out $18,786.95.

The 65-year-old woman contacted Walton about some roof and window repairs she needed done following a hail storm in 2016. The 39-year-old Malcolm man contacted him in 2017 to do an addition on his home.

Both told law enforcement Walton required sizable down payments but did little or no work at all on the projects and didn't return the money.
