A 25-year-old driver who sheriff's deputies say ran a stop sign west of Lincoln in July has been charged with motor vehicle homicide for the fatal crash that followed.

Matthew D. Werner of Lincoln entered a not guilty plea at his first appearance on the misdemeanor charge last week.

If convicted, he could get up to a year in jail on the charge.

Lancaster County Sheriff's deputies said Werner was driving south on Southwest 40th Street on July 13 when his Chevy Silverado pickup collided with a westbound Chevy 1500 pickup on West A Street.

The front-seat passenger of the other pickup, 54-year-old Rhondi Lovelace of rural Lincoln, died at the scene.

The sheriff's office said she and Reginal Wyman of Fremont, the driver of the Chevy 1500, were not wearing seat belts.
