An inmate serving prison time for a shooting death during a drug deal in Omaha died at the Nebraska State Penitentiary on Thursday, according to the Department of Correctional Services.

Milton Felder, 51, was being treated for a long-term medical condition. His 36- to 40-year sentence began in July 2018. He had been sentenced for manslaughter and possession of a deadly weapon by a felon in Douglas County in the 2017 shooting death of 21-year-old Brandon White in a botched robbery outside a north Omaha middle school.

The cause of Felder's death has not been determined. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
