A Kansas man used a pair of fake $100 bills to buy two $20 gift cards at neighboring Lincoln restaurants before being arrested Monday afternoon, police say.

A manager at Carlos O'Kelly's, 4455 N. 27th St., called 911 at about 2:45 p.m. to report a suspicious bill that was of "poor quality," Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood said Tuesday. The manager also described the man who cashed it.

Leaving Carlos O'Kelly's, the investigating officer noticed a man matching that description walking from the nearby IHOP, where, Flood said, he had bought a gift card using a fake $100 bill with the same serial number as the one from Carlos O'Kelly's.

Andrew Carter, 46, of Wichita, Kan., was jailed on suspicion of first-degree forgery.
