Derrick James, senior director of public affairs for Amtrak, will speak in Lincoln about Amtrak issues in general and specifically long-distance trains like the California Zephyr that serve Lincoln. His presentation begins at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Gere Library, 2400 S. 56th St.
Amtrak boardings on the California Zephyr trains have shown a steady increase in the past several years, said Richard Schmeling, director of ProRail Nebraska, District 1.
"It is hoped that a second pair of passenger trains can be operated at some time in the future during daylight hours, which would be more convenient for Nebraska passengers," Schmeling said.
James will also answer questions anyone might have about Amtrak's service. The public is invited -- ProRail Nebraska membership is not required. Questions? Call Schmeling at 402-853-9537.
