Police and fire pensions

Taxpayers are responsible for paying defined-benefit pension plans even if investments on the pension funds don't make enough money. The city broke out the property tax amount for the police and fire pensions separately for the first time last year in order to be more transparent, said Brandon Kauffman, city finance director.

Lincoln police identified the woman who died after falling from a moving truck as Amanda V. Terrell of Lincoln.

The incident happened near Adams Street and Cornhusker Highway early Tuesday evening. A police accident report says the 25-year-old woman exited the truck — either by falling or jumping, it is unclear which — as it headed east on Adams between 14th Street and Cornhusker. The truck, driven by Seth A. Noble, then drove over her, police said.

Terrell died at a hospital a few hours later. Noble, 31, was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence. His blood-alcohol content measured two hours after the crash at 0.093 percent.

Police are looking for surveillance video of the scene as they continue their investigation.
