The Nebraska State Patrol seized nearly 227 pounds of marijuana and arrested six people in a weekend traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Seward County.
Just before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, a trooper stopped an eastbound 2014 Chrysler minivan near the Seward exit for following too closely and failure to signal. The minivan appeared to be traveling with a black Chevy Suburban.
The trooper who contacted the driver of the minivan smelled a strong odor of marijuana, and ended up finding 226.6 lbs. of the substance in nine duffel bags in the cargo area. The marijuana was contained in 189 packages.
Troopers arrested minivan driver Debbie Tresner, 51, Del Paso Heights, California, and passenger Betty Jane Smith, 61, Sacramento, California, on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
The patrol stopped the Suburban at the Utica exit after it turned around and headed back to the west. Documents found in the Suburban linked the two vehicles together.
Suburban driver Bryan J. Williams, 42, Sacramento, and passengers Pedro Maximiliano Alaniz, 31, Modesto, California; Mariano Sebastian Alaniz, 38, Novato, California; and Zeev W. Malkin, 28, San Jose, California; also were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
