State Patrol seizure

Nebraska State Patrol troopers seized 530 pounds of marijuana, with a street value of $1.6 million, in a traffic stop on Interstate 80 on Monday afternoon.

Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested a Florida man after finding 530 pounds of marijuana in a traffic stop on Interstate 80 on Monday afternoon, according to a patrol spokesman.

A trooper stopped an eastbound Freightliner truck at about 12:30 p.m. after seeing the refrigerated trailer driving on the shoulder near Shelton, the patrol said.

During the stop, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity, and a search revealed 18 Home Depot boxes, which contained hundreds of heat-sealed bags of marijuana, according to patrol spokesman Cody Thomas. The drugs weighed 530 pounds and had an estimated street value of $1.6 million.

Troopers arrested the driver, 51-year-old Vladimir Javier, of Homestead, Florida, who prosecutors charged Tuesday with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

He remained in the Buffalo County jail Tuesday.
