A Lincoln man told police he was stabbed with a pocketknife after confronting a man he believed was trying to sexually assault a woman.
The incident took place 2 a.m. Friday on the 1200 block of Washington Street, police say.
The 33-year-old was a guest in the home, asleep in a bedroom, when he heard shouting from a woman inside. He walked into the living room and found a man he suspected was trying to assault the woman.
He confronted the man, who then struck him several times on the chest. The guest realized he'd been stabbed after he started bleeding on the right side of his chest, Lincoln Police Officer Angela Sands said.
He walked to the police substation at 13th and F streets and notified officers of the incident.
Officers were prepared to force entry into the home when Hughie Perdew, 60, let them inside, Sands said. They found a pocketknife with dried blood hidden under a coffee table in the living room.
Perdew was arrested and jailed on suspicion of second-degree assault and use of deadly weapon to commit a felony, Sands said.
