Police found a man sleeping next to a rifle in the backseat of a stolen pickup in a Lincoln hotel parking lot Wednesday evening.

Seward County dispatchers alerted Lincoln police around 6 p.m. that the OnStar tracking service showed a stolen Chevrolet Silverado was parked at the TownPlace Suites by Marriott along Interstate 80 near 27th Street, Lincoln Police Officer Angela Sands said. OnStar remotely disabled the Silverado's engine, stranding it in the parking lot.

Seward authorities warned Lincoln police that the man inside might be armed with a gun.

The man, identified as 30-year-old Kenneth Barr, a transient, was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators believe the .50-caliber muzzleloader rifle found on the truck's floor was stolen from another vehicle in Seward County that was near the Silverado, Sands said.

Barr was taken to jail on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking and possession of a stolen firearm.
