A former Omaha taxi driver has gotten probation for assaulting a woman who'd hailed a ride from him to her Lincoln apartment in 2015.
Farah A. Diriye, 29, pleaded no contest to third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, in a deal with prosecutors.
Douglas County District Court Judge Kimberly Miller Pankonin sentenced him Thursday to 12 months' probation.
Prosecutors originally charged Diriye with first-degree sexual assault, based on a 22-year-old Lincoln woman's report.
She told a Nebraska State Patrol trooper she'd hailed a cab after drinking with friends in Omaha after a May 8, 2015, Garth Brooks concert, fell asleep in the backseat and woke to the driver sexually assaulting her. She said she passed out again before being dropped off at her north Lincoln apartment building.
Diriye told investigators he drove the woman to Lincoln that night but denied having sexual contact with her.
Happy Cab fired him after learning of the allegations.
