A driver and a child inside an SUV were killed in a crash with a semitrailer north of Norfolk on Thursday, a Nebraska State Patrol spokesman said.

Two other children were injured in the crash, which happened east of Hadar in Pierce County at the intersection of U.S. 81 and Nebraska 13, Cody Thomas said in a news release.

The three children were in a Buick Enclave that was turning west onto Nebraska 13 when it was hit by the soutbound semi, Thomas said.

The SUV driver, who was not identified, died at the scene.

Two children were taken to Faith Regional Hospital Services in Norfolk, where one of them later died, Thomas said. The other child was flown to Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.

An ambulance also took the semi driver to the Norfolk hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The State Patrol is withholding further details about the people involved in the crash as troopers work to notify family, he said.

The crash remains under investigation.
