New and past members of the Lincoln Senior Men’s Golf League (LSMGL) had an opportunity to complete memberships at the March 27 Spring Meeting prior to the April 15 deadline for full-time status.

A new addition for the meeting was Kevin Keegan, representative for Big Red Golf, who had a special rate offer for senior members on BRG's golf tour card. For $80, the card covers green fees at over 100 courses with the purchase of a cart; and for $240, a group could buy three and get one free. To check this offer out, visit bigredtours.com or call 402-902-2455.

Casey Crittenden, course superintendent, provided information on work at the city courses. A new member of the team is “Peg,” a goose dog won by Crittenden due to his overwhelming online support in a recent contest in California. The oldest course in Lincoln, Pioneers had the pump house replaced, and many ash trees have been removed at Holmes and Mahoney. Holmes Lake has new cart paths and new tee boxes for hole 15 to alleviate problems created when the fairway floods.

Wade Foreman, business coordinator, announced that a golf open house will be held April 15 at the Holmes course. There will be Calloway demonstrations, club trials, prizes, free food and drinks, along with lots of information on the city courses and leagues available at that time. New youth golf programs are available at Ager, and donations of clubs and balls are always appreciated and put to good use for those who can’t afford to purchase their own.

Course pros Jon Vincent, Dennis Vontz and Tim Rowland had their contracts renewed for the next four years. The Ager course has teamed up with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to develop and do research on turf grass for the course and maintain it. Interns will be doing the bulk of the work.

Introduction of the officers and board members preceded an update on the new league rules and registration periods for the Fun Days. Regular league play will begin May 1, while the Fun Day tournament schedule has changed a bit and will commence April 24 at Ashland Country Club.

For more details on rule changes or to sign up, see the LSMGL website at lincolnseniorgolf.com. The deadline for registration of full-time members is April 15.
