The Lincoln Stamp Club's 2013 LINPEX Stamp Show will be held Feb. 23 and 24 at the Quality Inn & Suites South, 1511 Center Park Road, three blocks south of Nebraska 2 on South 14th Street.
This year's theme is "Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation." To mark the anniversary the U.S. Postal Service issued a special Emancipation Proclamation Forever stamp Jan. 1. The stamp will be available for purchase at the show Feb. 23, as will other current stamps and philatelic items from the U.S. Postal Service substation.
Hours for the show are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 23 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 24. Parking and admission to the show are free.
A special LINPEX collectible show cover with a cachet and cancel also will be available. The cancel uses broken chains to illustrate how the declaration began the work to end slavery.
Covers also can be ordered by mail with a self-addressed business envelope and cash, money order or check for $2 made out to the Lincoln Stamp Club, 3240 Sheridan Court, Lincoln, NE 68506.
The show features dealers buying and selling stamps, free appraisals of collections and a beginners table with stamps selling for a penny for children and a nickel for adults. Exhibits include First Day Covers from Germany; Fort Sumter of 1961; and the Purple Heart Medal, among others.
