The Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to help maintain the Hamann Rose Garden and the Strolling Garden at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at 27th and B streets.

Volunteers should park in the new Children's Zoo parking lot, which will have assigned stalls on the west side for event participants. The lot entrance is located off of A Street near 28th Street. Additional parking will be available on the east side of the Hamann Rose Garden and in the Sunken Gardens lot at 26th and D streets.

Volunteers do not need to register. Participants are asked to bring thorn-proof gloves and pruning or lopping shears. A tool-sharpening station will be available, and staff will give tips on how to properly sharpen tools.

Staff will demonstrate proper spring rose pruning and provide information on growing rosebushes as they lead the maintenance of the Hybrid Teas, Floribundas, Grandifloras, Shrub Roses and Miniature Roses.
