The League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County will sponsor a public forum on two ballot measures, Medicaid expansion and mayoral term limits, Thursday, Oct. 25, from 7-9 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 6300 A St.
This forum will provide information on Initiative Measure 427, which if passed would amend the Nebraska statute to provide that the state amend its Medicaid state plan to expand medical assistance coverage for certain adults, ages 19-64, with incomes at or below 138 percent of the federal poverty level.
Speaking on this measure will be Molly McCleery, J.D., deputy director of the Health Care Access Program at Nebraska Appleseed.
Information will also be presented on an amendment to the city charter that, if passed, would disqualify the incumbent mayor from serving another term and prevent future mayors from serving more than three consecutive terms. Kathleen M. Neary, attorney with Powers Law in Lincoln, and concerned citizens will speak on this measure.
These presentations will reflect the League’s policy positions on these two measures. Joining the League of Women Voters as co-sponsor is the Nebraska Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. For more information, contact the League office at 402-475-1411.
