Puppy love abounds at I Love My Dog Expo

I Love My Dog Expo returns to the Lancaster Event Center, 4100 N. 84th St., Saturday and Sunday.

The annual dog-friendly family event includes entertainment, games, demonstrations and numerous vendors. Among the demonstrations are agility, rally, police canine unit, and “Eric and Angelyne, the deaf cattle dog.”

Hours of the expo are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 for adults; children 10 and younger are free, as are well-behaved dogs (must be on a short leash).

Proceeds will benefit Domesti-PUPS, a nonprofit organization that trains service and therapy dogs. For information visit

* Celebrate Read Across America Day with a reading party at the University Bookstore, 1500 S St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Activities include Dr. Seuss stories, games and Dr. Seuss crafts. Followed by birthday cake in honor of Dr. Seuss who would have been 111, and a drawing for a Dr. Seuss prize package.

* The annual Lincoln Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Nebraska takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holmes Lake Park. Registration for people planning to plunge begins at 9:30 a.m.
