The Central Campus of Christ Lincoln Church, 4325 Sumner St., held a Passing of the Vest ceremony March 3 to celebrate the arrival of its Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) K-9 comfort dog Joanna.
Christ Lincoln's comfort dog ministry plans to share LCC's mission of "mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need within the Lincoln community and beyond."
Four out of the five other Nebraska LCC K-9 ministry teams joined in celebrating Joanna comfort dog’s Passing of the Vest. Joining Joanna were comfort dogs Eddie from Grand Island-Peace, Priscilla from Lincoln-Trinity, Katie from Fremont-Trinity and Nicodemus from Seward-The Rock. Peace Lutheran from Columbus also attended and will be obtaining a Comfort Dog.
At the ceremony, it was noted that the "In Training" vest is being replaced with "K-9" and "Kare 9" official vests that Joanna will wear when she is working.
Joanna arrived with her Lincoln handlers and ministry team at Christ Lincoln on Feb. 15. She has already made an impact with the church’s children’s ministry, community visits, and was introduced to Christ Lincoln's South Campus congregation on March 10. Outreach volunteers have made plans with several local organizations interested in scheduled visits with Joanna.
Joanna is eager to meet and serve those in need. Contact the Christ Lincoln ministry team at Joanna@K9Comfort.org to make arrangements. You can follow "Joanna Comfort Dog" on Facebook to see all the things she’s doing and the joy she brings to others.
