Helen Catherine "H.K." Davis Stuart, 96, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014. Born in York on January 15, 1918 to Guy Russell and Marguerite (Holman) Davis. Graduated from Fairbury High School in 1935. Attended University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated in 1939 with B.A. and B.S. degrees. She taught school in Plattsmouth 1939-1940. Married James Stuart July 24, 1940 in Hackensack, Minn.
Helen Catherine was active in many organizations. She was a member of First-Plymouth Congregational Church, past deaconess and Board of Trustees of First-Plymouth, past president of Junior League of Lincoln, past president of Chapter DN-PEO, past president of Holmes School PTA, past president of Lincoln Symphony Board, past member Girls Scouts-Cornhusker Chapter Board, past member University of Nebraska Board of Trustees and Wesleyan University Board of Trustees.
A volunteer at Bryan Memorial Hospital, Red Cross and Lincoln Community Council, life member of YWCA, Lincoln Women's Club and University of Nebraska Alumni Association. She was a member of Colonial Dames of America and the Country Club of Lincoln.
Helen Catherine was initiated into her beloved Delta Gamma in 1936. She served as president of Kappa Chapter as well as serving in many other positions with Kappa Chapter. She received the Outstanding Alumni Award from Kappa Chapter. She also received the Cable Award and the Golden Anchor Award, which is Delta Gamma's highest award. She was a past province collegiate chairman of Delta Gamma where she influenced the lives of many young ladies, not only locally, but also on a national level.
Helen Catherine loved her family and spending summers on Woman Lake in Longville, Minn. She was an accomplished needle pointer and loved all cookies. Her legacy was her devotion to her family. H.K. and Jim had three children, 11 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.

She is survived by daughter, Catherine Stuart Schmoker (Kit) and Dick Schmoker, and their children Catherine (Kim) and Willard Hunnewell, Bill and Cindy Schmoker, and Lisa and Boyd Hesdorffer, all of Minneapolis; son, Scott and Jane Stuart of Lincoln, and his children, Dr. Scott and Tiffany Stuart of Minneapolis, and Mark and Karla Stuart of San Diego, Calif.
Members of the James Stuart, Jr. family who survived H.K. include grandson, James Stuart, III, and Barbara Stuart of Lincoln, granddaughter, Susan Stuart and Kenneth Seiler of Minneapolis, and grandson, Lee and Debra Stuart of Lincoln. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Susan Sehnert Stuart and their children, Robert Stuart and partner, Thomas VanKlaveren of Portland, Ore., Carrie Stuart and Megan Stuart of Lincoln. H.K. was also survived by former daughters-in-law, Leah Smith Stuart and Ellen Hayes Stuart.
Preceded in death by husband, James Stuart, Aug. 21, 2012; son, James Stuart, Jr., Feb. 20, 2014, and two great-grandsons; parents; brother, Thomas Holman Davis.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday (5/24) First-Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 'D' Street with Rev. Dr. Jim Keck officiating. Visitation: 2-8 p.m. Friday (5/23) with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 'O' Street.
