Sigurd Garnett was born July 13, 1952, in Beaufort, S.C., and passed away February 23, 2019, in Lincoln. He was a graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was a member of Acacia Fraternity. Sig was a tennis teaching professional and had worked at the Lincoln Racquet Club, now Genesis, for about 27 years. He was also the coach of the reserve tennis teams at Southeast for eight years.
He married Diane Gonzolas in 2006. He is survived by his wife; daughter Amber (Brian) Barber of Seattle, Wash.; son Seth and fiancee Nicole Sadd of Lincoln; stepson Anthony (Liana) Gonzales of Austin, Texas; sisters Renee Buresh of Lincoln and Laura (Bruce) Malone of Kalama, Wash.; brother Mark of Lincoln; sister-in-law Marcie Garnett of Omaha; granddaughters Marin and Frances Barber and Lilli and Mia Gonzales; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gail and Corinne Garnett, and his brother Vel.
A memorial will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Genesis Racquet Club, 5300 Old Cheney Road. It will be followed by a celebration to honor Sig from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Country Club, 9401 O Street.
