Phillip ‘Phil' R. Powell Sr., age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill, Wis. Phil was born on April 12, 1966, to Eldon Powell and the late Sandy (Frankie) Aranza in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Phil attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln. He attended Pine Ridge Job Corp Center in Chadron and graduated with a auto mechanics certificate. Phil was employed with U.S. Securities as a security guard at Eastbay in Wausau. He enjoyed picking up and fixing small engines. He was a Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Broncos fan. Phil was active in the RC Flyers. He enjoyed driving all kinds of trucks including semis. He loved fishing and boating. Most of all he loved playing Grand Theft Auto with his son PJ. He enjoyed spending time with his cat, Duke. Phil was a member at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Merrill. Phil is survived by his wife; Lori of Merrill, son; Phillip (PJ) Powell Jr. of Omaha, sister; Brenda (David) Dowthitt of Neola, Iowa, step-daughter; Nicole Rehwinkel of Merrill and his little fur buddy; Duke – the cat. He was preceded in death by his mother: Sandy. Per Phil's wishes, no services will be held. Memorials can be sent to his son Phillip Powell Jr at 1902 Lake Street Lincoln, NE 68502.
