Bernice Pauline (Dunn) McDermott died February 23, 2017. Born December 22, 1927, in Wood River to the late Joseph P. and Katherine (Konkoleski) Dunn. Graduated in 1945 from Wood River High School. United in marriage to Robert James McDermott in Grand Island. They lived in Kearney until 1957, when they moved to Lincoln. Her husband Bob died in 1983, while watching Nebraska beat Oklahoma. Bernice worked nearly all her life, as a telephone operator in her early years, and in clerical positions, mainly in doctors' offices, and finally at Bryan LGH until she was in her early 80's.

Bernice enjoyed being with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was an active member of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ. Devout member of Perpetual Adoration, Altar Society, Light of the World bible study, taught CCD (religious education) and had a deep devotion to the rosary and the Divine Mercy.

Bernice enjoyed baking and was known for delivering her rum cakes to friends and acquaintances. She was a faithful viewer of Wheel of Fortune.

Survivors: sons, James (Penney), Aurora, Colo.; Joe McDermott, John (Cindy) McDermott and Todd (Dianne) Rice, all of Lincoln; daughters, Mary (Michael) Worster, Evergreen, Colo.; Liz Hollowell, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Susie McDermott, Anaheim, Calif.; and Patty Brown, Lincoln; 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Gibbs, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters, Amelda Chronister, Alice Cleary, Betty Hagel Breeding and Joan Fletcher.

Rosary: 7 p.m., Monday, February 27, Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St. Mass of Christian Burial: 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3700 Sheridan Blvd. Monsignor Robert Tucker officiating. Memorials in lieu of flowers to Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska.
