She was a graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, IL and DePauw University in Greencastle, IN where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Mary and Byron raised their family in Peoria. Mary's many talents ran the gamut from girl scout leader to room mother to entertaining friends and family at home to part-time interior designer. Mary moved to Louisville, KY after her second husband died and was a member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and enjoyed living at Dudley Square. She then moved to Eastmont in Lincoln. “When asked what was she most grateful for during her life, Mary responded that it was the loving relationships with her four children and family and with friends near and far, old and new.”

Preceded in death by her husbands Byron Denny and Milton Neul of Peoria, IL, surviving are her four children: Debora (Jeff Burling) Denny of Lincoln, Kathy (Brian) Richards of Reno, NV, Pamela Reinholdt Clancy of Louisville, KY, and Robert (Lesley) Denny of Las Vegas, NV and five grandchildren: Bryan (Olga) Reinholdt, Grant (Lisa) Shangreaux-Lux, Jason (Karin) Richards, Marjorie (Matt) Bruck and Eric Richards and two great-grandchildren: Misha Reinholdt and Frances Shangreaux-Lux. The family is most grateful to the staff and caregivers at Eastmont Community, Home Instead, and Tabitha Hospice in Lincoln.
