Lorene V. Ellerbrake of Lincoln, Nebraska died June 12, 2019 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Elmo K. Ellerbrake; dear mother of Mark, Amy (Bob James), Sara (Rodney Turpel), Heidi (John Grealish) and Jon. Loving grandmother of Andrew, Caitlin, Zach, Michael, Denai, Reilly, Quinn, Murphy, Weston, Carson, Hannah, and Meredith. Loving great-grandmother of Lincoln and Lucy.
She graduated from Union High School in Union, MO, and graduated from the Elmhurst College with a Bachelor of Science of Education. Lorene later completed a Master of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska. Lorene taught in several schools and retired from teaching third and fourth grade in Unadilla, NE in May, 2000.
As the minister's wife, Lorene directed the choir at every church her late husband served. When her children were at home, she was active as a Sunday school teacher, children's choir director, 4-H leader, and used her sewing skills to sew clothes for her family.
One of Lorene's favorite activities was playing card games. She enjoyed all kinds of music, loved to dance, and was an avid reader. Later in life, Lorene enjoyed travel with her companion of 25 years, Duane Woerman. Lorene was well-liked by the staff at Good Samaritan Assisted Living in Syracuse and Gateway Vista in Lincoln. Lorene was known for her positive outlook and cheerful attitude, even when she was unable to participate in activities she loved. Seeing her grandchildren brightened her day, even on the worst days.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years; her parents, Otto and Irene Young; and her brothers Marvin, Otis and Kermit. She is survived by her sisters Doris (Howard Moye), Sally (Paul Westermeyer), and Sandra Burke, sister-in-law Geraline Ellerbrake, and many nieces and nephews.
