Julie Elizabeth (Jensen) Thoendel, age 36, of O'Neill, passed away suddenly after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Avera McKennnan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Julie Elizabeth Thoendel was born May 20, 1982 in Lincoln, to David and Rosemary (Mankin) Jensen. She graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 2000. During her school years, she excelled in music and art and was a cheerleader. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, majoring in fine Arts. While attending college, she studied printmaking in Florence, Italy.
Julie met Josh Thoendel at a wedding in 2006 and they were married on June 19, 2009 in Lincoln. They made their home in Omaha, while Josh attended Medical School at UNMC. In 2014, their daughter Joslyn was born. Julie kept busy working at various retail jobs, working on her art, remodeling their home and being a mother. After Josh finished his residency, the couple moved to O'Neill in 2015.
Julie used her artistic and creative background and renovated their entire home. Julie worked at the First Presbyterian church as the church secretary for a short time. In 2017, they added to their family when second daughter, Jillian was born. Julie's girls were her life, she enjoyed staying at home and spending as much time as she could with them. Julie's passion for art, music, singing, and gardening surrounded her. She loved putting her own detailed touches everywhere. Her environment was her canvas. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
Julie is survived by her husband, Dr. Josh Thoendel; two daughters, Joslyn, age 4 and Jillian, age 1, of O'Neill; mother, Rosie Molvar and step-father, Dr. Mike Molvar of Lincoln; father, David Jensen of Colo.; paternal grandmother, Lois Jensen of Aurora; brother, Jay Jensen and wife, Kelly, and daughter Piper of Lincoln; step-brother, Todd Molvar of Lincoln; step-sisters, Tiffany Sheets of Las Vegas, Nev. and sons, Matt and Zach Humphrey, Jenna Crabtree and husband, Ben, of Aurora, and Jordan Jensen and wife, Kristen, of Wichita, Kan., and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Maynard Jensen; and maternal grandparents, Cloyde and Ialeen Mankin.
Funeral Services for Julie will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at the First Presbyterian Church in O'Neill. Rev. Karen Larson and Rev. Dean Seger will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill. Memorials can be made to the family for future designation. Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of arrangements.
