Jean taught vocal music in Sidney and moved to Gering in 1951 to continue teaching.

Jean met her future husband, Robert, at a church pie social and the rest is history. They married in 1954 at East Lincoln Christian Church. They raised two children. Jean was a volunteer in many community activities including Regional West Nebraska Medical Center, Meals on Wheels, she served 24 years on the Gering Parks, Cemetery and Tree Board.
