Rev. James (Jim) W. McChesney, age 86, passed away at the Country House Residence for Memory Care, 25th & Old Cheney. His death June 8, 2019 came on the 61st anniversary of marriage to Joanne (Larsen) who he met while attending the former Fairbury Jr. College. He was born May 3, 1933 on a farm near Narka, KS to John W. & Ella (Saip) McChesney. Following education at Nebraska Wesleyan University and Boston University School of Theology, Boston, MA, Jim was ordained an Elder in The United Methodist Church in 1963 and served many UM churches throughout Nebraska. His last appointment was Central District Supt. of the United Methodist Church, Kearney, NE from 1995-2001.
He is survived by his wife Joanne; daughter Lisa (Robert) Edson, Houston, TX; son Bill (Stacy), Loveland, CO; son David (Jan), Lincoln; grandchildren, Kamden (Angelica) McChesney, Ryan Edson, Michael and Scotty McChesney; great-grandchildren Lillian and Zander McChesney; brother Jack (Eleanor) McChesney, Clay Center, KS and Neva (McChesney, Joy) Hermes, Concordia, KS; brother-in-law Harlan Heier, Lincoln, sisters-in-law Eleanor (Charles) Stiles, Superior, NE, Kathleen (Hugo) Westphal, Syracuse, NE; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Nellie McChesney, and brother Warren McChesney.
Memorial services will be Thursday June 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church 45th & A St. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Christ United Methodist Church, or Food Bank of Lincoln.
