Greg Wahlen, 71, of Lincoln, passed away, surrounded by family, on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, after a long struggle with diabetes and related complications. His spirit and his will to live were strong to the end.
Greg was born in Benson, Minnesota, to Harry and Clarette Wahlen. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis and from Union College in Lincoln. He also earned a master's degree in guidance counseling from Loma Linda University, La Sierra Campus in Riverside, California. Greg was an ordained Seventh-day Adventist minister. He served as pastor in several districts in Iowa and Missouri.
Greg also worked as a teacher and dean in several educational settings including Cedar Lake Academy (Michigan), Pacific Union College (California), Monterey Bay Academy (California), Gem State Academy (Idaho), and Union College (Lincoln). Greg finished his career as a guidance counselor at Pius X High School in Lincoln.
Greg had a passion for people and for God. He was an artist, a singer, an athlete (hockey in particular), and a humorist who loved to laugh and tell jokes. He was handy and enjoyed innovating and fixing things. He had a special way of connecting with people wherever he went. He loved his family, and his family loved him and will miss his spiritual leadership and loving kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughter, Amy (Brad) Finch, son, Brien (Sarah) Wahlen, granddaughter, Layne Wahlen, brother, Tom Wahlen (Jacqueline), and many other family and friends. His family has an appointment to meet him under the tree of life in heaven.
Greg's service will be at 4 pm Saturday, December 1, at College View Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4801 Prescott Avenue, Lincoln. His burial will be at a later date in Walla Walla, Wash.
