February 12, 1928 - September 8, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Nanette “Nan” Hope Graf announces her passing at the age of 90. Born February 12, 1928, to Sarah Florence and Vern T. Hope in Ventura, California, she went on to receive her undergraduate degree and master's in English from Stanford University.
Nan moved to Lincoln in the early 1950s to teach at the University of Nebraska (where she later received her doctorate in 1991). She also taught at Nebraska Wesleyan for 28 years. Aside from teaching and spending time with her family, Nan's passions included yoga, civil rights, and human rights.
She is survived by her four children: Ted Graf, Kate (Rich) Murphy, Julie Graf, and George (Vanessa) Graf, four grandchildren: Carly (Kyle) Ries, Jack Murphy, Isabel, and Tatum Graf. She just recently welcomed her first great-grandchild; Katherine Ann Ries.
A celebration of Nan's life will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, October 28, at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nebraskans for Peace at nebraskansforpeace.org/donate.
