February 11, 1946 - September 16, 2018
Carl John (C.J.) Hanner was born on February 11, 1946, in Lincoln, to Carl William and Irene Mae (Masters) Hanner. He passed away on September 16, 2018, at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln, at the age of 72 with his family by his side.
C.J. attended public school in Lincoln and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan. In August of 1969, C.J. married Cheryl Carlson in York. To this union, two daughters were born: Kimberly Sue and Sarah Ann. He later married Janice (Jan) Wright on October 9th, 1982, in Lincoln. To this union, twin sons, Jared and Jeremy, were born.
After his graduation from college, C.J. taught 5th through 12th grade instrumental music in Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska. For 13 years he was the jewelry department manager in the Ardan's catalogue showroom in Lincoln. Ardan's was closing in January 1987 and this was perfect timing for him to become Mr. Mom to his twin sons that were born in December 1986.
In addition to caring for his sons, he continued his love of music by playing music with his own group as well as with other local bands. His group, the C.J. Hanner Combo, also played for the Tuesday night dances at Auld Pavillion for several years.
C.J. loved to travel. In February of 2018, C.J. and Jan were able to take a 27 day trip to Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. This was a lifelong dream of C.J.'s and they were so glad they got to experience all that these countries had to offer.
C.J. is survived by his beloved wife, Jan; his daughter Kimberly Winter (Andrew) of Connecticut and his twin sons Jared Hanner (Krissy Jacobs) and Jeremy Hanner both of Lincoln; grandchildren: Kiersten Winter of Connecticut, Bryton Jacobs and Sophia Hanner of Lincoln; aunt, Vivian Parker of Syracuse, uncle, Richard (Dona) Hanner of Ralston; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sue and Gary Keim of Kearney, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Sandra Wright of Broken Bow; mother-in-law, Ilia Wright, Kearney, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
