Betty J. Hoffman, 93, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., passed away September 18, 2018, in Littleton, Colo. She was born in Lincoln on May 7, 1925, to Harold and Martha (Witte) Harpster. Betty graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and attended the University of Nebraska while working at Western Union Telegraph Company. She was employed by Bryan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1969 as a secretary and retired as coordinator of Student Services in 1989.
Betty volunteered at Veterans Hospital and Welfare Society, Inc. and bowled in senior citizen leagues. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, and volunteered in the office. In 2001, Betty moved to Colorado to be close to her family. She bowled, volunteered at Koebel Library in the used bookstore for several years, and enjoyed playing cards, and socializing with her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harry Hoffman. She is survived by her son, Thomas of Westminster, Colo., her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Gary Van Doorn of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and two grandsons, Scott Van Doorn of Gunnison, Colo., and Jared Van Doorn of Los Angeles, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln. A private graveside ceremony will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park.
