Avis Runyan passed away on September 12, 2018 at the age of 96. She was born on September 27, 1921 in Cottonwood County, Minnesota to Katrina and Ernest Grunewald. The family relocated to Iowa, where Avis spent most of her life. Avis married Bill, the love of her life, on June 16, 1941 in Iowa, and were blessed with one daughter, Gail. The family made their home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
In addition to the roles of wife, mother and homemaker, Avis, enjoyed a fulfilling career as the executive director of the Fort Dodge YWCA and later, as director of public relations at Trinity Regional Hospital. Upon retirement, the Runyan's relocated to Lincoln to be closer to their family. Avis enjoyed many hobbies and volunteer positions, including as a patient care ombudsman and at Randolph Elementary school.
Avis is survived by her son-in-law, Charles Bachinski, grandchildren: Sarah and Jason Smith and Matt and Kari Bachinski, great-grandchildren: Jessica and Rylan Siefken, Jayden and Mitchell Hunn, Genni, Cody, Colton, Connor and Savannah Bachinski, a great-great-grandchild on the way, sister Vi Powers, many extended relatives and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Runyan; her daughter, Gail Bachinski, a great-granddaughter, Isabella Bachinski and all but one sibling.
