The Capital City Kiwanis Club’s Young Children Priority One/Youth Services Committee hosted a combined baby, toddler and pre-schooler shower in May to benefit Head Start and the Stork Club.
Club members donated a variety of items including baby gates, receiving and children's blankets, diaper bags, umbrella strollers, onesies, socks, bottles, disposable diapers, construction paper, crayons and educational toys, along with other items, to both organizations.
Janelle Maybee of Community Action's Head Start spoke about the Early Head Start Program, which provides prenatal services and opportunities to enhance the development of infants and toddlers; and the Head Start Program, which promotes school readiness, provides health and nutrition services, offers innovative child development services for families and provides parental assistance in identifying community support.
Crystal Wasko spoke about the Stork Club, a program for expecting women and new moms. This program, sponsored by the Lincoln Family Medicine Center/Lincoln Medical Education Partnership, encourages women to seek the prenatal care necessary to have a healthy, happy pregnancy and baby.
