The Alzheimer’s Association, in partnership with presenting sponsor Hillcrest Health Systems, raised $60,000 during its annual statewide Growing Hope Gala March 24 at Nebraska Innovation Campus in Lincoln.
Centered on an Evening in Wonderland theme, the event featured a cocktail hour, live magic performance, silent auction and award presentation.
The 2018 Courage Award was presented to Kathie Bickerstaff, a 26-year volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association. Bickerstaff was recognized for her efforts to promote a greater understanding and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, dispelling public misperceptions and moving people to take action. The award is sponsored by the Association’s partner, Home Instead Senior Care.
The Association thanked its sponsors and the more than 250 guests who helped make the Growing Hope Gala a successful fundraiser.
The Alzheimer’s Association Nebraska Chapter serves all 93 counties in Nebraska. In addition to offering free education and support services, the chapter raises money for local and national research efforts through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and The Longest Day events. Staff members and volunteers also work together to encourage state legislators to make Alzheimer’s disease a priority in the state by increasing funding.
