John Chapo, president and CEO of the Lincoln Children's Zoo, greets Maureen Lauderdale with a silky chicken and an American alligator at the annual Wayne's Body Shop golf fundraiser at NuMark Golf Course.

A total of 160 golfers and 25 community business sponsors raised $23,000 for Lincoln Children's Zoo in May at the Wayne's Body Shop golf fundraising tournament at NuMark Golf Course.

Wayne's Body Shop owners Craig and Kellie Johnson organize and host this annual fundraising tournament, now in it's 11th year, as a way to give back to the Lincoln community.

The day is unlike any golf tournament around, with wild animal-themed holes, including live encounters with animals from Lincoln Children's Zoo on the course. JR and Nikke Hollenbeck of H.F. Crave generously gave their time and talents to donate burger lunches for players and volunteers, and Capital Auto Glass provided dinner after the tournament.

All funds raised will help feed the zoo's animals and support its CATZ program, which gives free admission tickets to over 20,000 children and families who could not otherwise afford entrance fees.

"The Lincoln Children’s Zoo receives no tax dollars to operate the zoo. Hence the vital need for such an excellent and generous fundraiser for the zoo," said John Chapo, the zoo's president and CEO.
