Noyes Art Gallery will host “Blessed with Good Fortune: Year of the Pig,” a Third Friday event, Feb. 15 from 6-9 p.m.
Organized by Lynette Fast, that evening eight Noyes artists will present work in diverse styles and media; some of it with Japanese themes. For Fast, these explorations take the form of jewelry and mixed media works. In another example, Sheena Nakagawa’s mixed media drawings reflect her interest in manga and project strong moods in both black and white and color.
Other artists in the show include Tom Marshall (photography), Kristi Wulser (paintings), Paula Yoachim (paintings), Joan Phelan (photography and mixed media), Karen Griffin (jewelry) and Jo Brown (paintings and mixed media).
Additionally, in honor of the theme that night, Madoka Wayoro of the Kawasaki Reading Room for Japanese Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will serve samples of Japanese tea and highlight important elements of the Japanese tea ceremony. Origami artists will demonstrate how to create by folding paper. And for music lovers, Jeramie Beahm will perform guitar music.
Noyes, a cooperative art gallery, displays work by more than 60 artists. Located at 119 S. Ninth St., the gallery has presented unique artwork for 25 years under the direction of owner and operator Julia Noyes.
