Television and movie star Tim Allen will be at the Lied Center for Performing Arts Saturday for a night of stand-up comedy.
Allen, best known as "Tim the Toolman" Taylor from the long-running ABC series “Home Improvement” and as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the Pixar-animated “Toy Story” movie series, began his career doing stand-up.
Born Timothy Alan Dick in Denver, Allen moved to California after graduating from college in Michigan. There, he honed his comedy chops in the clubs, becoming a regular at The Comedy Store and landing appearances on the late-night television talk shows.
His "Tim the Toolman" gig, which began in 1991, earned him a Golden Globe, an Emmy nomination and a barrel of People’s Choice Awards -- and the opportunity to move into movies, where he starred in hits like “The Santa Clause” and “Old Dogs” and landed the Buzz Lightyear voice role.
Allen, who’s starting promotion for “Toy Story 4,” the last of the series, continues to star in “Last Man Standing,” a hit comedy that ran on ABC until it was abruptly canceled in late 2017 after 100 episodes.
Fox picked up the show, which its loyal legion of viewers maintained was canceled by ABC because of Allen’s conservative politics. Fox recently announced that “Last Man Standing” will be moved from its prime Friday evening time slot to make way for the WWE.
Who knows whether the show’s cancellation and Allen’s conservatism will be part of Saturday’s show? But it’s certain that Allen’s stand-up won’t be PG rated. The performance has been designated "for mature audiences” due to adult content. The Lied will be enforcing an 18-and-older age minimum to attend the show.
Tickets for Allen’s show are $64.50 to $129. Tickets are available at the Lied Center box office, liedcenter.org or by phone at 402-472-4747.
