Jan. 31 – Helping Hands Auction
United Way Women in Philanthropy will present the 12th annual Helping Hands Auction, 6 p.m., at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel, 333 S. 13th St. A new twist to this year’s event: 1920s attire is encouraged, but not required. Auction items include Carrie Underwood concert tickets, a backyard barbecue and a Dismal River golf package. Proceeds provide diapers and winter clothing to Lincoln families in need, and benefit pediatric brain tumor research through the Team Jack Foundation. Feb. 1 – Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy
Get your chocolate fix with delectable delights from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. at Embassy Suites on Friday, Feb. 1. The 33rd annual Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy fundraising event brings professional and local chefs together with chocolate connoisseurs to raise money for Historic Haymarket District community events like the Farmers’ Market and Haymarket walking tours. Includes live entertainment and a silent auction. The Lincoln Haymarket Development Corporation, a nonprofit board, is committed to continuing the economic development, revitalization, preservation and growth of the Haymarket District. Feb. 2 – Music from the Heart Gala for Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra
Lincoln Symphony Orchestra’s annual gala, 6-9 p.m., at Lincoln Country Club, 3200 S. 24th St. Includes dinner and a program featuring concertmaster Anton Miller performing with the orchestra and a special selections with music director Edward Polochick on piano. Opera Omaha Holland Community Opera Fellows Chabrelle Williams and Jessica Johnson Brock will give an encore performance. Cocktail attire suggested. Valet parking available. Feb. 13 – Habitat for Humanity Community Builders Breakfast
Includes a light breakfast and program that will highlight current and future Habitat Lincoln homeowners, 7:30-8:30 a.m., at the Lincoln Station Great Hall, 201 N. Seventh St. Habitat Lincoln will share its impact over the last 30 years; but more importantly, how that impact has helped more than 170 families move from renting unaffordable and crowded apartments and mobile homes to realizing their dream of owning their own home. This new one-hour event will help raise funds toward Habitat Lincoln’s 2019-2020 builds. There is no cost to attend, but RSVP is required at lincolnhabitat.org/community or 402-477-9184 by Feb. 1.
Feb. 22 – Russ’s Wine and Food Experience
Taste local and international wines at this 11th annual event, 5-8 p.m., Embassy Suites, 1040 P St. Sample fine cheeses, gourmet desserts, beef, seafood and many unique items. Approximately 90 booths will fill the main ballroom. In addition, Reserve Room guests (4-8 p.m.) will choose from an exclusive selection of reserve wines and a buffet. Tickets for the Cellar Room (also 4-8 p.m.), where you’ll find a dozen top-end wines and an expanded menu of appetizers and snacks, are limited to the first 40 buyers. Presented by Russ’s Market, the event has raised nearly $400,000 for the Lincoln Community Playhouse since its inception. This year’s goal is to raise $30,000. Members of the Playhouse Players will be in costumes at the event selling raffle tickets for an all-expenses-paid trip to California’s Napa Valley. Feb. 23 – Team Jack Gala
This sixth annual event features speaker Dick Vitale, legendary basketball analyst and childhood cancer care advocate, at Embassy Suites, 1040 P St. The event begins with a 5 p.m. with a social hour, followed by a 6:30 p.m. dinner and program. With a goal to raise funds for pediatric brain cancer research, Vitale will be joined by elite former Huskers and current NFL players. Enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, dinner, an exclusive VIP reception, and live and silent auctions. Cocktail attire. Event proceeds benefit the Team Jack Foundation. Feb. 23-24 – I Love My Dog Expo
Domesti-PUPS’ I Love My Dog Expo, one of southeast Nebraska's family-friendly events for dog lovers, will have extended hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at the Lancaster Event Center, 4100 N. 84th St. Well-behaved, fully vaccinated dogs are welcome. Vendors will showcase their products and services while helping to promote responsible dog ownership. Guests will find entertainment, games, training demonstrations and shopping. Proceeds benefit Domesti-PUPS, a service organization that provides assistance dogs for people with disabilities, pet therapy programs, classroom dogs, educational programs and a rescue dog training/adoption program.
