The second annual citywide Mah jongg Jamboree was hosted at Bess Dodson Walt Library on May 2.

Mah jongg is a tile-based game of strategy developed in ancient China and is now played worldwide. You can find a game of Mah jongg being played across Lincoln at many locations including eateries, libraries and private homes.

The Mah jongg Jamboree was initiated by the group that plays the game at Walt Library on Thursday afternoons. This year’s Jamboree brought together 66 individuals from various Lincoln venues and players from surrounding communities including Omaha. The group enjoyed an afternoon of play and complimentary refreshments.

The game of Mah jongg has sparked interest and continues to gain momentum, says Stacey Hawkey, who coordinates the games at Walt Library. Plans are being made to host the Jamboree in the spring of 2020 at a location that can accommodate larger numbers of players, she said.

If you are interested in Mah jongg, stop by Walt Library, 6701 S. 14th St., on Thursday afternoons between 1 and 3 p.m.
