A total of 350 chocolate lovers attended the 33rd annual Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy event Feb. 1 at Embassy Suites.
The event brought chocolate chefs from 18 local businesses together with chocolate connoisseurs to raise money for Historic Haymarket District community events and the United Way/Community Health Charities campaign. At the time of publication, event organizers did not yet know the total funds raised.
The Bill Wimmer Trio provided entertainment as guests strolled from table to table, visiting with the creators about their chocolate creations.
The City of Lincoln won the Most Unique Table Design award with a Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory theme. Other chef award winners were the Nebraska Club, Most Creative Use of Chocolate; Mood Chocolate (located in The Mill’s Haymarket coffee shop), Most Delectable Chocolate; and a tie between Mood Chocolate and Kitchen Sink Bakery for the People's Choice award.
Celebrity judges were Jeff Korbelik, author of the book “Lost Restaurants of Lincoln” and Lincoln Journal Star food critic; Shinya Takahashi, Nama Choco owner and past People's Choice winner at Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy; Brandon Rector, meteorologist, 10/11 News; Brandee Weber, creator of the “Nebraska: The Chocolate Life” documentary, NET; Dan Parsons, creator, Lincoln Secret Supper and the Elevating Local Food Facebook page; Steve Engel, general manager, Buzzard Billy's; Chris Goforth, marketing and communications director, History Nebraska; and Tammy Ward, City Council candidate.
The event included a silent auction of items donated by more than 100 businesses and individuals.
