Windstream Communications has named a former Lincoln City Council member to head up government relations for a five-state region.

Trent Fellers is the telecommunications provider's new vice president for governmental affairs for Nebraska, Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri and Minnesota.

Fellers will be based in Lincoln and report to Brad Hedrick, who is president of operations for those five states.

Fellers served on the Lincoln City Council from 2013 to 2017, including a stint as council chairman from 2015 to 2016.

He recently worked in business development for Don’t Panic Labs, a Lincoln-based software company.

Fellers has been a deputy director for the Nebraska State Energy Office, a campaign manager for U.S. Senate candidate Jon Bruning, and chief of staff to former state Treasurer Shane Osborn.
