Sears announced plans Thursday for more store closings, including its location in Grand Island. The store at Gateway Mall in Lincoln will remain open.

Sears Holdings on Thursday announced plans to close another 40 stores, including one in Nebraska.

The retailer, which is going through bankruptcy, said Thursday it is closing another 40 Sears and Kmart stores, including the Sears store in Grand Island.

In Nebraska, that leaves only the Sears store at Gateway Mall and one in Omaha, as well as a Kmart store in Alliance.

Sears filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month and at that time announced plans to close 142 stores. The company is attempting to reorganize its finances and keep open a few hundred stores it says remain profitable.
