Rock 'n' Joe Coffee, a music-themed coffee franchise, officially opens the doors on its first Nebraska location on Wednesday.
The New Jersey-based chain will open its newest location at 5025 Lindberg St. (just west of the intersection of 84th Street and Glynoaks Drive) at 7 a.m. with a grand opening celebration that includes free coffee and mugs for the first 250 customers.
The Lincoln location is owned by franchisees Dennis and Jayna Nienhueser and Tara Ihde. It features a drive-thru and an outdoor patio with a fireplace.
In addition to coffee, Rock 'n' Joe also will serve beer and wine.
Top coffee shops in Lincoln
1. The Mill
1. The Mill, 800 P St. -- The Mill brews my favorite of the locally roasted coffees. It’s also where I like to go to meet sources and friends. The atmosphere is always lively, with the dock on west side of the building perfect for people watching and socializing.
2. Cultiva, 3535 Holdrege St. -- I prefer Cultiva’s second location because it’s within walking distance from my home, making it my weekend destination. The crepes here are to die for, and because the shop uses a turntable for its background music, its record collection is something to behold (and hear).
3. MoJava Cafe
3. MoJava Cafe, 2649 N. 48th St. -- This is my wife’s No. 1. We've often taken part in date-night art-making events that the nearby Lux Center offers here. Plus, MoJava is home to live music, giving local singer-songwriters chances to hone their skills. The pizza and sandwiches are worth mentioning, too.
4. Crescent Moon
4. Crescent Moon, 140 N. Eighth St. -- I like that this is a mom-and-daughter operation, and you will usually find Melinda (mom) or Amanda (the daughter) behind the counter to make your favorite gourmet beverage. I go every Friday morning to have Amanda make me a large latte. Like MoJava, Crescent Moon prides itself on providing live music.
