You'll soon be able to take your pet to see the vet at Petco in Lincoln.

The national pet supply retailer filed a $480,000 building permit last month for a new veterinary clinic within its store at 47th and O streets. According to the permit, it will occupy about 1,800 square feet.

A Petco spokeswoman referred to it as a veterinary hospital and said it will open sometime in the second half of the year.

The clinic/hospital will be run by a company called Thrive, which says on its website that it specializes in "affordable" veterinary care, including $25 pet exams.

Petco announced a collaboration with Thrive in May 2017, and since then it has opened vet clinics in a few dozen of its stores nationwide.

Pop shop finds a new spot

Five years ago, Rocket Fizz, a retro candy and soda pop store, moved from south Lincoln to a spot in The Railyard at 601 R St. Now, the shop plans to move back to the south side of town.

Rocket Fizz announced in a post last week on its Facebook page that it will be moving to SouthPointe Pavilions in mid-May. According to a news release from SouthPointe, the store will be located in the former Claire's space across from Maurices and Francesca's

The store, which is part of a California-based chain, originally opened in 2009 at 1501 Pine Lake Road, right across the street from Lincoln Southwest High School.

Jeff and Polly Sindelar, who bought the store in 2013 from its original owner and moved it downtown, said they are excited to be moving to SouthPointe.

“This is a great fit for us,” Jeff Sindelar said in the news release. "We’re really excited to be part of the SouthPointe expansion launched with the new Scheels.”

New retail on tap at 27th, Holdrege

A nearly $650,000 building permit was filed last week for a new retail building on the vacant lot on the southwest corner of 27th and Holdrege streets.

A flier that has been circulating on commercial real estate sites shows a 6,000-square-foot building with five retail bays in it.

The owner apparently plans to occupy one bay with its own nail salon and spa and lease out the other four bays. One of the spaces is being marketed as a drive-in restaurant.

New mattress store

Comfort Made Mattress Factory is opening a location at 5130 N. 27th St. Suite 1. According to its Facebook page, it is right next door to PetSmart.

The Facebook page says the store will be open this month. You can find more information on the website, www.comfortmadebeds.com.
