Nebraska ranks fairly high among Heartland states when it comes to innovation, according to a report released Tuesday.

The report, sponsored by the Walton Family Foundation, ranked Nebraska fifth out of 19 Heartland states. The report defined the heartland as the states between the West and the East Coast. The region included in the report stretches from the Dakotas to the Southeast.

Nebraska received high marks for its technology and science workforce and got its lowest score for technology concentration.

Minnesota came in first, followed by Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Arkansas, the home state of the Walton Family Foundation, came in last.
