Cactus Modern Mexican & Cantina - fall

Cactus Modern Mexican & Cantina opened in the fall at 56th and Nebraska 2.

The site of a short-lived chain Mexican restaurant will soon reopen with local ownership.

The owners of Venue and other Lincoln restaurants have announced plans for a new concept called Cactus Modern Mexican & Cantina by Venue.

Pillar Restaurant Group said in a news release that the restaurant is slated to open later this month at 5500 S. 56th St., Suite 1, which is the former home of Chevys Fresh Mex in the Edgewood Shopping Center.

The site has been vacant since Chevys closed in October 2017, less than two years after opening.

Cactus Modern Mexican & Cantina will be a "family-oriented restaurant that combines flavors of Mexican cuisine with modern ideas and fresh, locally sourced ingredients," the owners said in the news release. It will have a bar, private dining room and patio seating.
