Granite City Food & Brewery fans will be without a Lincoln restaurant for about a month and a half.
The existing restaurant at Gateway Mall closed Sunday, and a new one being built just a few hundred feet away won't open until Nov. 9.
Gateway Mall General Manager Chad Becwar said the closure was necessary for the relocation of Granite City's beer-making equipment. The equipment must be disassembled, moved and then reassembled, a process that will take several weeks.
Becwar said the closure also allows the mall to go forward on renovations to accommodate a new Dick's Sporting Goods store.
The existing Granite City building on the south side of the mall will be torn down, and a Dick's will be built in its place, with the structure connecting on to the mall.
Construction on the 70,000-square-foot, two-level store will begin later this year. The building will have two ground-level exterior entrances and an interior entrance on the building's upper level. It is expected to open sometime next summer.
