Flatwater Bistro

The Flatwater Bistro at 801 R St., Suite 100, closed this week. An Omaha restaurant, Legends Patio Bar & Grill, plans to open in the space in a few weeks.

The owners of an Omaha bar and grill are planning to open a Lincoln location in the Haymarket.

Nick Saldi, who owns Legends Patio Bar & Grill in Omaha along with his brother, said they bought the assets of Flatwater Bistro at 801 R St.

They plan to reopen as Legends, hopefully in less than a month, although Saldi said that will be dependent on how quickly renovation work can be done.

He said the Lincoln restaurant will be very similar to the one in Omaha, which is in northwest Omaha, right off of the Irvington exit on Interstate 680. That restaurant caters to sports fans and has 30 large flat screen TVs, according to its website.

Saldi said he and his brother have been looking to open a Haymarket location for a couple of years.

"We've always liked it down here and wanted to be part of the area," he said.

Saldi said that when the Flatwater opportunity became available, they jumped at it.

The Flatwater had been open since May 2014. The restaurant apparently closed abruptly on Tuesday with no notice to customers and little notice to employees. A sign on the door Wednesday said the restaurant was "closed for renovations."

Jay Donaldson, one of the owners of the Flatwater, said that while it was sad to close the restaurant, the partners made a business decision.

"A good opportunity came our way and we took it," he said.
