Casey's General Store has closed its location at 70th Street and Havelock Avenue.
But customers shouldn't fret, because a Casey's nearby -- next door, in fact -- will remain open.
The Iowa-based convenience store chain had operated the two stores on either side of Havelock Avenue on the west side of 70th Street for nearly nine years, after Casey's bought local convenience store chain Kabredlo's in 2010.
Mike Richardson, Casey's vice president of marketing, said the reason the company kept the neighboring stores open so long is because the location at 4401 N. 70th St. had a Subway inside and there was a contractual agreement that would have been difficult to get out of.
That agreement has now expired, allowing Casey's to close the location, he said.
Six employees worked at the location that closed, and Richardson said they were eligible to apply for openings at other Casey's stores, although he did not know how many, if any, did.
As for the store itself, he said the company plans to sell it, with a deed restriction, of course, that will prevent a new owner from running a gas station or similar business.
The closing of the 4401 N. 70th St. store leaves the two Casey's in Eagle along U.S. 34 as the ones closest together in the area. Those two locations are less than two blocks from each other.
